Party Time!

Procrastination and inertia be damned. We are finally gonna pull the trigger on this party I have been threatening to have for several years. I always seem to waiting for the perfect time. There is no perfect time. Fuck it.

Saturday May 20. Oh yeah!

We're going to look at a karoke machine today that we want to rent. We definitely know we want to have karaoke.

Other than that, I need your help. I'm a little rusty in the party-throwing department. We were party-throwing pros in the 80's. That was a long time ago.

Does anyone have ideas for food and entertainment/activites? Or an idea for a theme? Yesterday Amanda and I were discussing themes, and the problem with most themes is that we often do blood drive promotions with themes, and most of the guests will be blood bankers, so many themes would be ho-hum to them.

It will be BYOB, of course, to avoid pesky liability. Mrs. Fab will do some of her fabulous baking. We don't want to grill because we want to be able to just circulate and enjoy everyone's company. It will probably be a combination of catering/purchasing/cooking but we have not made any choices yet.

There will be anywhere from 30-60 people or so. I'll have a better count in a couple weeks. What can we do to make it fun? I throw the question out to you, my blogging buddies!

Keep in mind it will be work people for the most part, so we're not looking for it to erupt into a drunken orgy of violence. Or any other kind of orgy.

That's what the parties in the 80's were like.

I still have scars. And a couple STDs.

Hmm... I'd say pirate theme. I've never been to a pirate themed party. Get it catered - lots less work. Sounds like fun - I wish I wasn't 5000 miles away!

Wow, this is the second time this week that I've been the first to comment.

Booze. Booze is important...and decent dancing music.

Pirate theme is good...or go with a renaissance theme either way women get to wear corsets without other people thinking them weird...and it opens the door to sea shanty kareoke or wench songs kareoke...

How about an 80's prom theme?

Erin--Arrgh! That's not bad! We have a pirate theme blood drive coming up in June prior to the release of the sequel to Pirates of the Carribean, but we've never done one before, and this would precede that...

Luin--Corsets? Girl, I have neckties older than you! Where do you get corsets? LOL Maybe you have a very old soul...

Lori--Ooh, that's good too. All 80's music, etc. Hmmm...

Toga! Toga! Toga!

That would go nicely with an 80's themed party, actually! Or make it an 80's character theme, where everyone comes as their favorite 80's character! (Wonder how many would come as Alf?! lol)

Gawd! Lori, Miss Ma'am and I~ great minds think a like! I was gonna say an "80s" theme party since you haven't had parties since the 80s....the clothes, the "flock of seagulls"hair....the music!

I like lori's prom 80s prom theme even better! or Miss Ma'am's favorite 80's character!

When should we expect our invitations?

You know, you're only 4 or 5 hours away.... ;-)

I think the 80's theme would be fun. The karoke music could be from the 80s and you could have 80's movies playing in the background (with the sound down), like St. Elmo's Fire, etc. So, are out of towners invited, say from WV???? :)

How about a sports/baseball theme? Make it a Fenway Park experience. Bring the ball park to Florida! Fenway Franks...the green monster...

Ok, maybe not....

The best party I ever went to was many years ago. It was a come as you are party. Invitations were hand delivered by a hired boy and people had to come as they were when they got the invitation. No worry about what to wear. One lady wore a towel, one man was in undies.

I've never thrown a party, but the words open bar sound good. How about a DJ? Dancing? Jello shots?

Dude, that's a little fucked up to say that you're having a party, and then you don't invite any of us. I see how you are.

The 80's would be cool. I sometimes find myself listening to the 80's channel on Sirius radio.

How about an American Idol theme party? Everyone dresses to the nines, gets their glorious time on the Karoke (or is it Karaoke?) stage, and maybe wins a prize after the votes are in.

Or maybe a wrestling theme party? I get excited (like a little kid, get your mind outta the gutter) just thinking about this one!

Pajama party... definately... get the bankers out of thier suits for a night! And if I'm guessing right- you probably sleep comando so you'll be the hit of the party!!!

Miss---Hey, a Toga party! Damn, I haven't been to one of those since high school LOL

Pissy--You KNOW you're invited! You can make it in 4.5 hours at the most!

Fantastigirl--I WOULD look really good in a cape :)

Shelly--All my blogging friends are invited, I should have made that clear. WV too, even though we'd probably have to get you a passport :)

Some Girl--You WOULD be surprised how many folks at work are Red Sox fans. We are everywhere!

Jan--LOL I would not even know where to begin to put together a party like that!

Cleavage--YOU have never thrown a party? I find that extremely hard to believe! LOL

Detroiter--Would I get to be Simon and make snarky comments about everyone's performance? :)

T--Wrong, I wear shorts to bed. But it WOULD be an excuse to show off my tan lines...LOL

since the last time you threw a big party was the 80's why not go with a 80's prom theme. Encourage your guests to dress up - thrift stores are GREAT for these old dresses and suits. You might even pick up some so those who dont come in costume could slip into one

Michele--They can drink all they want (as long as they bring it) as long as they vomit outside.

Fidget--It definitely does seem to be the popular theme!

Mimi--Don't I need to roast a pig for that?

Supcomtabz--I love vampires! But I'm not sure how the rest of the peeps feel...

Saur--Hey, maybe I can do some combining and have an 80's vampire pirate Tupperware luau...

I had a Tupperware/Margarita party once. Everyone had a great time except the Tupperware lady.

I think a 70s party would be a lot more fun than an 80s party. But I'm old like that.

You don't have to roast a pig, silly Mr Fab. I went to one last summer and they had a ham.And the women wore their bikini top siwth grass skirts. You would be surprised at all the luau party supplies that are out there. Whatever you do, I know it will be a blast.

How about a celebrity party? Everyone could dress as their favorite star (or most hated one).

Mr. Fab were you following me around in the middle of the night last night hunting for Matt? Are you a night owl too?

Sushi? I'm sushi? You're making a vagina statement, aren't you bucko!!!

Just kidding.

Since you guys are in the mostly tropical state of Florida, why not go with an Arctic/Alpine theme?

Up here in the high altitude mountains, we throw a beach party for charity every Feburary, in the dead cold of winter. Crab dinner, horrible hawaiian (sp) shirts, leis and pasty white legs in shorts.

Won't involve a lot of expense and planning on the part of partygoers, which IMO, is pretty key for a successful "do".

And you can use Karaoke songs from every era.

They could wear a hat, a scarf, long john cutoffs...

Serve everything on ice! Shrimp, fruit, etc.

Traditionally "hot" drinks--coffee, hot chocolate, etc can easily be converted into icy drinks with a couple of blenders (why not? Starbucks makes a fortune off it!)

Blood bank ,eh? I guess vampire theme is out. yeah, I'm the only one who thinks that way.

Well, mixed drinks are better than just hard booze. And buffet/finger foods!! The food must be eatable without a knife and fork!

80's theme sounds good. Depends on the guests though (age wise) especially with the Karoke.

If you go with Karoke you HAVE to get Karoke Revolution/Karoke party. TOO. MUCH. FUN. Trust me.

My idea of a perfect Party is inviting about 40 people who will bring lotsa food, dessert and booze and leave it by the door as they go away :)

Blogarita--The 70's theme is good too. That's my generation as well. Where did I put that old leisure suit...

Mimi--Can I wear a grass skirt too?

Tricia--Yes I am, and yes I was. One of these days we'll find him...

Karen--OF COURSE you are invited!

Ben--That's a good tip. Thanks!

CeCe--Only if you bring Cherry so we can ooh and ahh!

Attila--Wow, that's a good idea, and you put a lot of thought into it!

A vagina comment? Moi? :)

Gunn Girl--Finger foods, yes! I need ideas as to what good finger foods would be...

Lorrainne--Hmm...kind of a misanthropic theme...I LIKE it!
