How to save big money!

I got home from work a little early on Friday, after coming from the tanning salon (yeah, I know, I have a rough life). I stood on the front porch. Hesistantly I put my key in the lock. I turned it. I took a deep breath. I opened the door and stepped in.

Ahhhhhhhhhh. Cool, cool air.

Mrs. Fab had stayed behind and waited for the A/C guys in the morning. I hadn't heard from her, so I assumed all had gone well, but I still couldn't know for sure until I got home.

But all was well in the House of Fab.

In the kitchen, the bill from the A/C company was on the table. $800. Ouch! That hurt.

Oh well. Gotta have the air conditioning in Florida in the summer. Gotta. No way around it.
It still kinda stung though. That's a pretty big hit to take out of the blue like that. Stupid house.

I looked at it again. The bill wasn't very detailed. Eight big ones. Shit.

When Mrs. Fab got home I asked her how long it had taken them to fix it.

"Ten minutes."

"Ten minutes? Eight hundred dollars for ten minutes work!?"

"What are you talking about?"

"I saw the bill for $800!"

"It was $80."

"Are you sure?"

"Uh, yeah, I wrote the check. Duh!" (Okay, she didn't say "duh" but I'm pretty sure it was implied)

I got up and looked more carefully. Sure enough, there was only one zero, but it kind of had a double loop.

"Oh. $80. Well, that's better."

The thing is, I now feel as if I have saved $720 somehow. I really do. I feel pretty good about that. Maybe I should take some of that money and buy some stuff.

Oh man, too bad I didn't think it said $8000...

In other news (see how considerate I am by putting all this in one post) my friend Tricia sent me another lemur pick. She is always looking for goofy stuff for her blog Odd Planet (one of her five blogs thank you very much) and when she gets a lemur hit she sends it my way:

Aren't they adorable? Don't you just want to dip their ringed tales in bosco and paint chocolate mustaches on statues in the park?

Whoa. Where did that come from?

And finally, I will leave you with a few cartoons that made me chuckle:

I was going to suggest that 80 of us, your biggest fans each send you 10, and you'd be fine. Ok I know my looney isn't up to your dollar, but it's the thought that counts :)

I seriously need to try that with the money. I'll tell my husband that I went to the doctor and they had to run tests and the bill is $600 and I'll write the check and put it in the checkbook. Then, a week later I'll say I was wrong and our insurance covered it so now I can buy my new camera lens!

I love surprises like that. Even though I haven’t actually saved any money, I spend the difference like a banshee since I had already 'written it off.' And three cheers for AC.

I get the same feeling when I buy clothing with 50% off. Alex sees it differently he thinks I would have saved more had I not bought the clothes in the first place.

I suppose you can't argue with that. (Even if he is wrong. LOL)

Hope you are having a great holiday weekend over there.

Katt--I could buy a lot of lemurs with that dough!

Lynda--Good point. I don't want to strain something...

Shelli--Oh that's right. And the big 5-0 is quite a milestone :)

Michele--I believe they are primates...

3T--I love the way you think! Perfect!

Dick--It's a lot more convenient, silly.

Heather--Perfect! Just don't over-use it...

Suze--I would never take Alex's side against yours. Hope you're having fun!

T--I'm off to the mall, let's go!

Shannon--Excellent plan! Come on over anytime!

Kara--LOL, you're so silly!

Enjoy your frosty home!

Now, that is a GENIUS money-management method. You should write a Dave Ramsey-style book immediately and cash in. Where the price is printed on the jacket, have the printer add an extra zero or two, and by the time people have purchased the book, they will have TOTAL comprehension of the Mr. Fabulous System!
